Making an Impact

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois Leadership View

For more than 80 years, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) has partnered with communities across the state to help improve community health and lend a helping hand when needed most. As a local health plan, it’s important to us that we remain deeply embedded in the communities we serve, working alongside our neighbors, friends, and family to help people live healthier lives.

The health and well-being of our communities drives our community giving and our corporate volunteerism. As the health care industry continues to focus on eliminating social determinants of health and removing barriers to care, we are doing our part. We are making long term, targeted investments aimed at helping to improve the health and well-being of local communities.

We know that lack of housing can have a significant impact on a person’s ability to improve their health. In 2019, we worked with community partners focused on removing the obstacle of homelessness, helping empower individuals to better manage their medical conditions.

We are continuing to make healthcare more accessible by providing care coordination and health education at the Blue Door Neighborhood CenterSM which serves Chicago’s Pullman community (coming soon to Morgan Park and South Lawndale). Our first ever brick-and-mortar presence has partnered with more than 41 community organizations, and served more than 6,000 Pullman residents providing critical services to thousands of residents – all focused on improving community health.

Being a good corporate citizen means leading by example and living true to our purpose. We are proud to be the only insurer to offer multiple health plan options in every county across Illinois – demonstrating our commitment to expand access and close gaps in care.

Throughout the year, we'll share stories of how BCBSIL works to make a positive impact on community health. Standing with our members and communities as we work together to improve health equity, celebrate and foster diversity and inclusion and invest in the future of our state.

Thank you for taking the time to read and watch our stories.

Sincerely,

Steve Hamman
President, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois
