Upcoming Changes to Telehealth Cost-Sharing

Posted July 30, 2021

On July 22, 2021, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker signed into law Public Act 102-0104, which expands access to telehealth. On the same date, Executive Order 2020-09 was amended to remove the waiving of member cost-sharing for telehealth.

As a courtesy to our members, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) will continue to waive member cost-sharing for telehealth for eligible PPO, Blue Choice PPOSM and HMO members through Aug.15, 2021. All other telehealth benefits currently offered will also remain in place until the end of the August 15 grace period.

Benefits may be different for our members covered under certain employer-funded health plans depending on the decisions their employer makes about telemedicine.

For providers, nothing changes for now on how to submit telehealth claims. Continue to visit the News and Updates page on the provider website for further updates regarding telehealth.
