COVID-19 At-Home Test Kits FAQs
Effective January 15, Boeing-sponsored health care plans will cover FDA-approved COVID-19 at-home test kits in the U.S. The FAQs below apply only to U.S. employees with pharmacy benefits administered by Prime Therapeutics.
Employees with pharmacy benefits administered by other providers should call the member services number on the back of their medical/pharmacy ID card or visit the provider’s website for more information.
-
Now that my health care plan covers at-home tests, will COVID-19 tests performed at hospitals, clinics, test sites, etc. continue to be covered?
No other coverage terms of Boeing-sponsored health care plans have been affected by this change. If tests performed at hospitals, clinics, test sites, etc. were previously covered by your plan, they should continue to be covered under the same circumstances.
-
Which Boeing-sponsored health care plans have pharmacy benefits administered by Prime Therapeutics?
Prime Therapeutics administers pharmacy benefits for Boeing-sponsored health care plans administered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois To find your pharmacy benefits administrator, you can also visit Worklife, click “My Health and Well-Being Benefits” in the green Quick Access box, click “Health & Insurance” in the top navigation, click “Medical Benefits” in the Coverage Details column, then scroll down to “Prescription Drug Expenses.” The name of your pharmacy benefits administrator will be listed there.
-
How many test kits will my health care plan cover?
Each individual covered by a company health care plan can obtain up to eight free FDA-approved at-home test kits every 30 days. For example, if there are four tests in a package, you can obtain two packages for each covered individual. If you obtained the tests on February 1, you would be able to receive eight additional tests on March 3.
Advantage+ plans – Testing under the medical plan and over-the-counter test kits purchased at pharmacy counter are covered at 100% after deductible.
-
Is there an age limit on individuals eligible to receive the at-home tests under a Boeing-sponsored health care plan?
No. Any individual covered by a company health care plan, regardless of age, is eligible to receive at-home test kits at no charge.
-
How do I know if a test kit is FDA-approved?
Please visit the FDA website for the latest list of approved at-home test kits.
-
Where can I get FDA-approved test kits?
Test kits are available at pharmacies, as well as physical and online retail locations. Some locations might limit the number of tests that can be purchased at one time. Many network pharmacies may be able to fill phone or online orders for COVID-19 tests by mail; employees are responsible for any shipping fees.
-
What is the difference between a pharmacy and a retail location?
The retail counters of grocery stores and pharmacy chains (often at the front of the store) are considered retail locations, while their designated pharmacy counters are considered pharmacies.
This distinction is important because it determines if the tests purchased will be free or if the employee will have to pay for the tests and then file a claim for reimbursement.
For example, if you purchase a test kit at the Walmart pharmacy counter through your pharmacy benefits, there will be no cost to you as long as the pharmacy is in network.
If you purchase a test kit from Walmart at the retail counter at the front of the store, you will have to pay for the test kit and file a claim for reimbursement.
Employees are encouraged to purchase tests from the designated pharmacy counter of a network pharmacy, using their pharmacy benefit whenever possible.Advantage+ plans – Testing under the medical plan and over-the-counter test kits purchased at pharmacy counter are covered at 100% after deductible.
-
Are the test kits free?
Test kits will be free if purchased at a network pharmacy through your pharmacy benefit. Participants who purchase test kits at a non-network pharmacy or physical or online retail location will have to pay for them out of pocket and submit a claim for reimbursement.
Advantage+ plans – Testing under the medical plan and over-the-counter test kits purchased at pharmacy counter are covered at 100% after deductible.
- How can I find a network pharmacy?
-
Can network pharmacies ship at-home test kits directly to my home?

-
Can AllianceRx Walgreens Prime ship at-home tests directly to my home?

-
Can I purchase FDA-approved at-home tests from Amazon Pharmacy?

-
What if the network pharmacies near me don’t have tests in stock?
Check back at a later date to see if they receive additional inventory or check with other nearby network pharmacies. The U.S. government is also providing free at-home test kits. Every residential address in the U.S. is eligible for one pack of four tests. These free test kits can be ordered online at covidtests.gov. Test kits are expected to ship within 7-12 days of ordering and will be delivered via the U.S. Postal Service. You can obtain test kits at non-network pharmacies or physical and online retail locations, but you will have to pay for those test kits and then file a claim for reimbursement.
-
What is the process for reimbursement if I purchase tests at non-network pharmacies or physical and online retail locations?
To be reimbursed, you should file a claim with Prime Therapeutics. Proof of purchase is required for reimbursement. Make sure you fully complete the claim form and sign the attestation section. A separate claim form is required for each covered dependent for whom you purchased test kits. If the claim form is completed incorrectly, not signed or not submitted with proof of purchase, or if the wrong form is submitted, the form will be returned to you.

No, you cannot use your YSA debit card to pay for at-home tests.
-

No. You will need to pay for your at-home tests out of pocket and first submit a claim to be reimbursed by your Boeing-sponsored health care plan. If you have a Health Care FSA, you can then file a claim for reimbursement for any remaining out-of-pocket costs with your Health Care FSA through YSA. To submit a claim, visit Worklife, click on My Health & Well Being Benefits in the Quick Access box and then click on the Reimbursement Accounts link in the top navigation of Your Benefits Resources.
-
