Choosing a Hospital

We understand that finding care you can count on is important. That's why we created the Blue Distinction® program, which identifies hospitals and medical facilities that have a proven track record for delivering better results.

There are two types of Blue Distinction recognitions:

  • Blue Distinction Centers — Hospitals that have proven their ability to meet high standards of specialty care.
  • Blue Distinction Centers+ — Hospitals that are recognized for meeting high standards of care and for delivering cost-effective care.

Where Should You Go For Care?

As a member, there are many places you can go for care including your doctor's office, retail health clinic, urgent care center or the emergency room (ER).

If it's a true emergency, the ER is the place to go. But, where should you go for non-emergency situations such as an ear infection or a bad stomach ache?

Traveling? Our BlueCard Program helps you access contracting doctors and hospitals across the country and around the world.

BlueCard coverage will vary for each BCBS Plan and will vary depending on whether you choose a contracting or non-contracting provider. Be sure to call Customer Service at the number on your ID card before traveling.
