BCBSIL will be your new medical carrier effective Jan. 1, 2027. Until then, your current benefits under United HealthCare will remain in place.

Here’s a quick timeline of the transition:

Starting Sept. 21, 2026: You can reach out to a Health Advocate with any questions about your new BCBSIL health plan.

Through Dec. 31, 2026: Continue working with United HealthCare for your current plan.

Beginning Jan. 1, 2027: Health Advocates become your primary support team.

Yes. New ID cards will be mailed to your home address before Dec. 31, 2026. Make sure your address is up to date in Workday.

It is important to note, only the employee's name is shown on the BCBSIL ID card. Providers will contact BCBSIL to confirm if your spouse or children are on the plan by using your ID card. 

Once you get your new ID card in the mail, you and your covered members will be able to create a Blue Access for Members℠ account where you can access policy details and access a digital ID card. 

As part of the move to BCBSIL medical coverage, you'll transition from United HealthCare to a new support team, BCBSIL Health Advocacy Solutions (HAS).

There may be some changes or enhancements to your provider network, cost share and prior authorization requirements. Reach out to a Health Advocate at 1-855-649-9634 for answers to any questions you have about your BCBSIL health plan.

BCBSIL has an extensive provider network, but it’s important to make sure your providers are in-network. Search now for care providers in our plan’s broad network of physicians, therapists, urgent care centers, hospitals and more.

Yes. Our pharmacy carrier, Prime Therapeutics, will be your new pharmacy vendor. Reach out to a Health Advocate at 1-855-649-9634, if you have questions about your medications, step therapy, prior authorizations, drug lists or in network pharmacies. 

You can consider using the Express Scripts® Pharmacy home delivery service.

To start using the pharmacy service after Jan. 1, 2027, create an account at Express Scripts or call 1-833-715-0942. Your provider can send new prescriptions electronically to EXPRESS SCRIPTS HOME DELIVERY.

Prescriptions that are approved for self-administration (like oral capsules or injections you can give yourself), must be filled through Accredo® or another in-network specialty pharmacy to avoid paying higher out-of-pocket costs.
