About the Program


Special Beginnings is a confidential maternity program designed to help you better understand and manage your pregnancy.

Get the support you need from early pregnancy until 6 weeks after delivery, including:

  • Pregnancy risk factor identification and ongoing communication/monitoring
  • Education material covering pregnancy and infant care topics, including a comprehensive educational book
  • Personal telephone contact with program staff
  • Assistance in managing high-risk conditions, such as gestational diabetes and preeclampsia


These articles will help guide you throughout your entire pregnancy, covering topics such as healthy eating and activities and substances to avoid.


This glossary provides definitions of terms used in Special Beginnings articles, screenings and vaccines and program information. It will guide you through some of the terms you might hear and read during your pregnancy.
