Telehealth Claim Adjustments for Behavioral Health Providers

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) supports telehealth as an emerging and valuable mode of health care delivery that can help improve the health of our members when appropriate. Telehealth can conveniently give patients access to a wide range of provider services including one-on-one consultations with primary care physicians, mental health services, and remote triage of conditions. We expect and support that telehealth will remain an integral part of the health care landscape in Illinois beyond the COVID-19 pandemic.
BCBSIL is aware of an issue where certain medical and behavioral health telehealth claims were inadvertently denied due to the way they were coded with certain places of service and a telehealth modifier affecting claims processed between Jan. 1, 2021 and Jan. 25, 2021. BCBSIL will be correcting any claims that were impacted by this issue. If you have further questions, please contact your assigned Provider Network Consultant.
