HEDIS® Annual Data Collection Reminder

Posted January 30, 2015

Each year, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) collects data for the Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS), a collection of performance measures developed by clinicians and researchers on the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) to measure effectiveness of health care received by health plan members.

As a reminder, BCBSIL will begin working directly with contracted Independent Physician Associations (IPAs) to collect medical record data for HMO Illinois® and Blue Advantage HMOSM using the HMO online data collection process. It is the responsibility of each IPA to establish a process for collecting the requested medical records from physicians.

All data collected from medical records are protected by the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996. The HIPAA Privacy Rule (CFR 160, 164) allows the collection and release of HEDIS data without patient consent or authorization.

Aggregated 2015 HEDIS results will be reported in an upcoming issue of the Blue Review. To view the 2014 HMO HEDIS results, visit the Clinical Resources/HEDIS section.
