CHICAGO — The Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) has once again recommended Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois as one of six Managed Care Organizations (MCO) for HealthChoice Illinois, the state’s Medicaid Managed Care Program.
“We are honored to once again be entrusted to continue serving our state’s Medicaid members,” said Brian Snell, BCBSIL President. “Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois has a longstanding commitment of increasing access to quality health care throughout our state, particularly in underserved communities. Our goal is to improve our members’ overall health by eliminating barriers to care and focusing on the health needs of our state.”
BCBSIL has participated in the state’s Medicaid program since 2014 and is currently the largest participating MCO in Illinois with 700,000 members. Nancy Wohlhart, President, Medicaid, will spearhead implementation efforts over the next several months.
“We look forward to continuing our collaboration with our members, providers, legislators and community partners across the state,” said Wohlhart. Enrollment is currently anticipated to begin later this year with coverage expected to start Jan. 1, 2027.
