Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois Hosting Fall Family Festival

Insurer offers health resources and fun to future neighbors in Morgan Park

CHICAGO – Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) is hosting a Fall Family Festival at the future site of its new multipurpose facility in the Morgan Park neighborhood on Chicago’s South Side.

The Fest is Sunday, Oct. 13 from noon to 3 p.m. in the parking lot at 11840 S. Marshfield Ave. in the Marshfield Plaza. The free event will feature pumpkin decorating, haircuts, food, face painting, balloon art, hat and glove giveaways, flu shots and more – all at no cost.

The event is BCBSIL’s first public event in the neighborhood since announcing in July that it will be bringing 550 jobs to the community and opening its second Blue Door Neighborhood Center®.

“We’re excited to become part of this community and bring value to our new neighbors,” said Maurice Smith, president of Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC). Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois is a division of HCSC. “Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois is committed to empowering our local communities and this Fall Family Fest is one way we can deepen our local connections to families.”

BCBSIL’s new site in Morgan Park is expected to open mid-2020 and hiring for positions at the center will begin in January at bcbsil.com/careers.

“The Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership is excited to collaborate with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois in its efforts to employ and provide opportunities in the Morgan Park and surrounding communities,” said Karin M. Norington-Reaves, CEO Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership. “Public-private initiatives present tremendous opportunities for community investments. Fall Family Fest and the Blue Door Neighborhood Centers are but two examples of the array of contributions Blue Cross Blue Shield will make on Chicago’s South Side.”

The Morgan Park Blue Door Neighborhood Center will offer free health and wellness classes, connections to community resources, education on how to better use insurance and more. It will be BCBSIL’s second Blue Door Neighborhood Center. The first center opened in April 2019 in Chicago’s Pullman community.
