Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois Hiring 300 Employees in Pilsen

Registration for applicants starting this week at Fiesta del Sol

CHICAGO — Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois will host a hiring event at its new Pilsen office at 920 W. Cullerton on Aug. 10. The new center will employ up to 300 customer service advocates and information technology personnel. Company representatives will be on-site for the 51st annual Fiesta del Sol at the 1400 block of W. Cermak Road on July 27, 28, and 29 to begin the registration process for interested applicants.

BCBSIL encourages individuals who are bilingual (English and Spanish) and have some experience in customer service to apply. BCBSIL hopes to hire locally for these roles because Pilsen has a skilled work force that represents communities where the company is experiencing the greatest growth in membership.

“Our customer service advocate positions are professional roles with strong opportunities for career growth that often leads to long-term employment,” said Tonita Cheatham, Executive Director, Communications and Community Relations, BCBSIL. “The work is especially rewarding because service advocates collaborate with members to help them get the right care.”

To help staff the new roles, BCBSIL is working with Skills for Chicagoland’s Future (Skills), a local non-profit that connects qualified candidates to promising job roles in the communities where they live, particularly in Chicago’s south and southwest neighborhoods. Skills focuses on providing opportunities for people who are unemployed or underemployed and may often be overlooked for jobs.

“At Skills we believe that everyone should have equitable access to jobs, but too often where someone lives creates a barrier to employment,” said Susan Dunseth, vice president of Business Development at Skills for Chicagoland’s Future. “We’re thrilled to grow our partnership with BCBSIL to support their local hiring efforts as they expand their presence into Pilsen. Now residents of Pilsen and the surrounding neighborhoods have the opportunity to grow their careers at a company invested in their community.”

The Customer Service Advocate positions require six months of experience in customer service, and the starting wage is $18 an hour, plus a 401(k) plan and health insurance. Compensation for the approximately 30 Information Technology roles will depend on work experience, and also includes a 401(k) plan and health insurance. Select applicants may receive job offers at the hiring event on Aug. 10 at BCBSIL’s new location in Pilsen.

The new facility will meet rising demand for Spanish-language member inquiries and becomes BCBSIL’s 18th facility in Illinois, joining other Chicago offices downtown and in Morgan Park, as well as other Illinois facilities in Downers Grove, Naperville, Springfield, Jacksonville, Rockford, Quincy, Danville and Mattoon.

Interested applicants can inquire at the Blue Cross Blue Shield tent at Fiesta del Sol or register online
