Anthem Data Breach Update
Last week, Anthem, Inc., the largest of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans, said that it was a victim of a data breach. Anthem has said that personal information, including Social Security Numbers, was accessed. Anthem has also said that no medical records or financial data were stolen.
The security of members' personal and health data is a top priority for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois. Anthem's investigation is still ongoing. We are working with Anthem to find out if any of our members were affected by this data breach. You will be notified if we learn that any of our members were impacted.
Anthem Phishing Scam
We do want you to know that scammers are sending emails to current and former Anthem members.
These scams try to gather personal information (known as "phishing"). They look like they are from Anthem and have a "click here" link for credit monitoring. These emails are NOT from Anthem.
If you get an email that seems suspicious:
- DO NOT click on any links in email.
- DO NOT reply to the email or reach out to the senders in any way.
- DO NOT supply any information on the website that may open, if you have clicked on a link in email.
- DO NOT open any attachments that arrive with email.
