High-tech Imaging Providers: Did you miss the deadline?
June 13, 2011
In April 2011, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) announced the implementation of OptiNet® – an online assessment tool developed by American Imaging Management® (AIM®) collect and assess modality-specific data from imaging providers. The OptiNet assessment process is an enhancement to our existing Radiology Quality Initiative (RQI) program, which AIM administers for BCBSIL.
If you are a high-tech imaging service provider that performs the technical component of CT/CTA, MRI/MRA, Nuclear Cardiology and/or PET scans for BCBSIL members, completing the OptiNet assessment is critical. Here’s why:
- Your assessment data will be analyzed to generate a score for each modality you register.
- As of Aug. 29, 2011, modality scores and other information* will be made available to ordering physicians during the provider selection component of the RQI process.
- If you do not complete the OptiNet assessment, your site will not be included in AIM’s online directory for viewing and selection by ordering physicians.
If you haven’t started the assessment, there’s still time to participate. While the deadline for high-tech imaging providers to complete the OptiNet assessment was June 3, 2011, information gathered from other providers is still being processed. Therefore, for a limited time, you may still register and complete your online assessment. Don’t wait! Submit your data as soon as possible so that your facility’s information can be displayed to ordering physicians.

Ready to begin the assessment?
Go to americanimaging.net/goweb. Select “BCBS Illinois” from the drop-down menu to begin your registration. The OptiNet tool will remain available to you if you need to make changes at a later date. You should update your information when necessary.
*In addition to modality scores, ordering physicians may view average allowed payment amount for the procedure (based on the professional and technical components of previously billed services), and distance from a particular member’s home.
