BCBSIL requires an on-site office visit for primary care physicians (PCPs) as part of the credentialing process prior to participation in the HMO or point of service (POS) products. High-volume behavioral health specialists are reviewed for the HMO product for the purposes of credentialing. For the POS product, the on-site office visit is only required at the time of initial credentialing. An on-site visit is not required for practitioners participating with the PPO product. BCBSIL may perform an on-site visit more frequently than every 2 years for quality improvement purposes. The BCBSIL 2005 site-visit standards used for the audit are available for you to print.
