Welcome to the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois Formulary
The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois Prescription Drug Formulary is designed to serve as a reference guide to pharmaceutical products. However, the formulary is not intended to be a substitute for a doctor's clinical knowledge and judgment. In all cases, a doctor is expected to select the most appropriate drug therapy for their patient.
Prescription drug benefits through Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois may be based on either the standard formulary or the generics plus formulary. If so, how much a member pays out-of-pocket for prescription drugs is determined by whether their medication is on this list.
If members are unsure about which therapeutic class a drug belongs to, they may try the search function. Please note: The correct spelling of any drug for which they are searching is necessary. If a specific drug does not appear when entered into the search function (and they are certain it has been spelled correctly), it is most likely a non-formulary medication.
