Welcome to the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois Formulary
The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois Prescription Drug Formulary is designed to serve as a reference guide to pharmaceutical products. However, the formulary is not intended to be a substitute for a doctor's clinical knowledge and judgment. In all cases, a doctor is expected to select the most appropriate drug therapy for their patient.
Members will be able to determine if a particular drug is on the formulary by accessing specific therapeutic classifications. If a particular drug does not appear within its appropriate therapeutic class, it is most likely a non-formulary medication.
If members are unsure about which therapeutic class a drug belongs to, they may try the search function. Please note: The correct spelling of any drug for which they are searching is necessary. If a specific drug does not appear when entered into the search function (and they are certain it has been spelled correctly), it is most likely a non-formulary medication.
