National Walk@Lunch Day® (4/25/12) is almost here!
Created by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, National Walk@Lunch Day seeks to improve personal health and decrease the costs of health care for employers and employees. Use National Walk@Lunch Day –– Wednesday, April 25th –– to encourage your clients and employees to begin a new daily walking routine and improve their health, one step at a time.
Employees at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois will be participating in the event by walking when they can between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., and will return to the building to find fresh fruit and water awaiting them. National Walk@Lunch Day is a very simple way to promote walking during employees' breaks!
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services estimates the cost to treat illness and chronic disease caused by inactive lifestyles is nearly $1,000 for every family in America, every year. Simply getting 30 minutes of moderate physical activity, such as a brisk walk, at least five times a week has significant health benefits, lowering the risk of developing or dying from cardiovascular disease, hypertension or type 2 diabetes, and improving the health of muscles, bones and joints.
Wear comfortable shoes on Wednesday, April 25 and begin walking toward a healthier America—and a healthier you. You can use this poster to help promote the program. For other National Walk@Lunch Day promotional materials, contact me.
National Walk@Lunch Day is an extension of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association's WalkingWorks® program.
