The Mitchell Museum of the American Indian in Evanston, Ill., is one of a handful of museums in the nation to focus exclusively on the contributions of American Indians and First Nation peoples in the United States and Canada. The museum opened 35 years ago and continues to expand its outreach. Visitors can take self-guided tours, attend lectures and other programs, use the reference library, and view a large collection of artifacts.
