Who Should Get a Flu Vaccination?

A flu vaccination is advised for everyone six months or older, particularly those at high risk for flu complications. Those with a higher chance of having serious problems from the flu include:

  • Older people
  • Young children
  • Pregnant women
  • People with chronic health problems, such as asthma, diabetes or heart disease

Others who can benefit the most from a flu vaccination are people who:

  • Are 50 or older
  • Work with the public or are caregivers
  • Live in a nursing home or long term care facility

Flu season typically runs from October through April, and a flu vaccination offers you the best chance to avoid the flu and complications from the flu. Ask your doctor about whether getting a flu vaccination is right for you.
