Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois in Marion Celebrates its 30th Anniversary

Employees celebrate the company's three decades serving the Marion community and 10 years in its current building.

Marion, IL — The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois Marion facility has much to celebrate in the month of September. Along with its 30-year anniversary in the community, its employees are also celebrating 10 years at their current location at 5001 Meadowland Parkway.

"The Marion office has been an excellent contributor to the Marion Community, supporting initiatives like the United Way with annual fundraising efforts as well as employee payroll contributions," says Kim Morse, the facility's Service, Delivery and Operations Director. "Annual fundraising events are a big celebration for Marion employees and generate a lot of excitement for supporting local programs."

Over the past three decades, this trusted healthcare leader has made one of its priorities to give back to the community of Marion. Blue Cross employees contribute to charitable organizations such as the Marion United Way, Hands of Hope Family Clinic, Casa of Williamson County, Hospice of Southern Illinois, Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Central Illinois, Mentors 4 Kids Inc., American Cancer Society, Poshard Foundation for Abused Children, Make a Wish Foundation, Special Olympics Illinois, Habitat for Humanity of Saline County, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, March of Dimes Foundation, Alzheimers Disease and Related Disorders Association, Mentors 4 Kids Inch, and the American Heart Association (AHA), The AHA in fact also recognized Blue Cross as a fit and friendly company.

Since opening its doors in 1983 Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois in Marion has become one of the top employers in the area, where the unemployment rate is at nine percent, 2.5 percent higher than the national average. The company believes it attracts quality employees through a combination of company reputation, wages, and benefits.

Blue Cross employees will celebrate with an outdoor picnic featuring games, food and music on September 7th from 11a.m. until 2p.m. Employees are able to invite family members to tour their offices with them.

"We're proud to call Marion home — it's where our 544 employees live, work and contribute to their community," says Austin Waldron, senior vice president and chief customer service officer for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois. "The family open house and picnic," he adds, "is a fun way to mark this important milestone and let loved ones share in the celebration."
