Food Network Star Jamie Deen to Participate in Diabetes Awareness Events at Toyota Park

June 20, 2012

Deen to Give Private Cooking Demonstration and Share Healthy Eating Tips and Recipes

Chicago, IL — The Chicago Fire Soccer Club announced today that Novo Nordisk spokesperson and host of Food Network's "Home for Dinner with Jamie Deen," Jamie Deen will take part in a series of activities to help educate and raise awareness for diabetes prior to the Chicago Fire vs. Columbus Crew match June 23.

Jamie Deen, son of noted author and restaurateur Paula Deen who announced in January that she has type 2 diabetes, will sign autographs and distribute recipes in FireFest (the Fire's family-friendly, interactive area) before providing 30 invited guests with a private cooking demonstration in the Second Star Club, the premier, all-inclusive luxury club at Toyota Park. The Deens have teamed up with Novo Nordisk on Diabetes in a New Light™, a national initiative that encourages adults with type 2 diabetes to take a positive approach to diabetes management and find simple ways to manage everyday challenges. To sign up for the campaign recipes and get tips and information about type 2 diabetes management, visit www.DiabetesinaNewLight.com .

Novo Nordisk, a world leader in diabetes care, offers a comprehensive portfolio of diabetes pharmaceuticals and delivery systems to help improve care for people living with diabetes. A member of the partnership entitled "La Buena Salud Es Vivir" (Good Health is Living), a collaboration to promote diabetes education and awareness, Novo Nordisk will team up with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, the American Diabetes Association and Walgreens to promote diabetes education and awareness.

In addition to the cooking demonstration and Diabetes Academy on June 23, this partnership will hold two more Diabetes Academies at Toyota Park that will give those living with diabetes and their families an opportunity to gather valuable information from medical professionals, including tips on managing the disease, testing blood sugar, and engaging in healthy eating and exercise habits. Free health screenings will also be available.
