BLUE CROSS AND BLUE SHIELD OF ILLINOIS EMPLOYEE WINS CORPORATE DIVERSITY AWARD

Mario Dean recognized for his dedication to helping diverse groups and communities

Chicago (June 23, 2009) - Chicago resident Mario Dean was awarded Health Care Service Corporation's (HCSC) 2008 President's Diversity Award, officially known as the "Raymond F. McCaskey Diversity and Inclusion Award." Dean is a support analyst for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois, which is operated by HCSC. Members of HCSC's Board of Directors and Senior Leadership Team gathered last night along with others to honor Dean at a special dinner ceremony at HCSC's Chicago headquarters.

Dean has been a champion of diversity at work and in his personal life since joining the company in 2003. Dean is a founding member of HCSC's Black Data Processing Associates (BDPA) business resource group. Under his leadership and with the support of his colleagues and senior management, HCSC has earned BDPA's recognition as a "Top 10 Company for Blacks in Technology" each year since 2006, culminating in the 2008 Epsilon Award as the nation's "Top Company for Blacks in Technology."

Additionally, Dean, a resident of Chicago’s south side, founded and served as a role model and mentor in HCSC’s Information Technology Group's “Hire the Future” program, which creates opportunities for young inner-city adults through its various internships.

BCBSIL employees, University Park-resident Diane Harrison-James, advanced contract specialist, and Park Forest resident, Regina High, public affairs coordinator, received honorable mentions at the ceremony.
