What it is: Secure Messaging is a fast, easy and secure way for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois members to communicate with specialized Customer Service Representatives via Blue Access® for Members (BAM). This enhancement allows you to send e-mail inquiries to Customer Service Representatives and receive e-mail answers from the convenience and security of your own desktop (currently, responses are by phone or mail).

Why this is great news for Blue Cross and Blue Shield Members. Because…

  1. It’s convenient! You can send questions and access responses at any time.
  2. It’s private! Secure Messaging is a confidential way to get answers online.
  3. It’s environmentally friendly! Communicating online instead of by mail saves paper.

How secure is it? Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois uses the latest technology to maintain the confidentiality of your information and continues to evaluate new technologies for additional safeguards. Questions are stored in a locked "in box."Our specially-trained Customer Service Representatives access questions and reply directly to members via Blue Access for Members.

With Secure Messaging, all communication happens behind fire walls in a secure database.

How do you get started? Just register for Blue Access for Members and log in!

It’s as easy as one-two-three:

  1. Log in to BAM and click on the "sign-up" link.
  2. Grab your Blue Cross and Blue Shield ID card and follow the simple registration steps.
  3. Go to your e-mail account and click on the link in the validation e-mail sent to you when you register.

That’s it! You are now ready to log in and start taking advantage of all the great tools Blue Access for Members has to offer.
