Your Abbott Blue Cross and Blue Shield (BCBS) benefits are designed to provide coverage for the care you need, encourage you to maintain your good health and help you manage your health care costs. Your benefits include:
Medical Coverage - The BCBS Plan gives you access to a network of doctors, hospitals and other health care professionals who contract with Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans across the country. With the BCBS option, you are not required to select a primary care physician to provide and coordinate your care.
In-Network Care
When you enroll in the BCBS, you can visit any contracting PPO network doctor or hospital and receive in-network benefits.Search for Doctors & Hospitals in the PPO network.
Note: When searching in the U.S., Wisconsin members should select WI as their state of residence and Blue Preferred POS as their health plan when prompted, not PPO. When searching for doctors and hospitals outside of Wisconsin you should select the state you are visiting and PPO as the health plan.
Out-of-Network Care
You may visit any doctor, hospital or ancillary provider outside the PPO network (or Blue Preferred POS network for Wisconsin members), but when you do, your out-of-network benefits will be lower and you will have to meet an out-of-network deductible every year. If your non-network provider bills more than the reasonable charge, you may be billed for the remaining balance. In addition, these excess charges are not considered eligible expenses and do not apply toward your out-of-pocket limits.

Special Beginnings®' - The Special Beginnings program is designed to provide expectant mothers with educational information and support through early pregnancy until six weeks after delivery.
Blue Care Connection® - Blue Care Connection provides personalized attention, support, online resources and health advocacy to help you optimize your health care benefits and manage medical conditions.
Nutrition Consultations - As an Abbott employee, your plan covers three visits with a nutrition specialist each year.
